You can now use a PIN to secure the app
Last updated: August 26, 2023
In older versions of the app, the only option to secure it was using your device's security. For example, unlocking the app with a:
- Passcode, Touch ID or Face ID on an iPhone or iPad
- Password, pattern or fingerprint on an Android device
You can now use a 6-digit PIN to secure the app if you prefer. This option is only available with the latest version of the app.
We recommend this option if you:
- Do not secure your device with a passcode
- Sometimes remove the passcode on your device
Going to use a PIN?
If you use a PIN, it's important to know the following:
- You need to remember your PIN
- It's never shared with us
- It never leaves the app on your device
- We cannot help you get or reset your PIN
- If you forget your PIN you will have to reset the app and set it up again
Why we added the option to use a PIN
You asked, we listened.
Previously, only people with a passcode on their mobile device could use the app.
By talking with citizens, we learned there are many reasons why someone may not have a passcode on their device. Including people who:
- Choose to not secure their mobile device with a passcode
- Cannot have a passcode on their device because they need quick access to it
- Need to turn off their passcode sometimes
We want to make sure everyone who needs to use the app can.
How to change to use a PIN
Using the latest version of the BC Services Card app:
- Open the app
- Go to Settings
- Tap on App security
- Tap on Change PIN
In App security, you can also choose a PIN or switch between options.
